Volvo’s New Milling Machines

Volvo’s New Milling Machines Volvo Construction Equipment has developed a new class of milling machines for the road development industry with the introduction of the Volvo MT2000 and Volvo MW500.

The Volvo MT2000 is a four-track, front-load, half-lane milling machine powered by a 610-horsepower Tier 3 Cummins engine. It offers three engine and drum cutting speeds. The low-speed selection provides higher torque at a lower engine rpm to power through tough material or deep-cut applications. The high-speed selection is available for maximum travel speed on shallow cutting depths. The standard cutting speed is used to provide maximum horsepower and efficiency at normal cutting depths.

The Volvo MW500 is a four-wheel, rear-loading, utility-class milling machine that offers a standard cutting width of 19.69 in. (500 mm). Due to its compact size and maneuverability, ideal applications include patching, joints, trenching and close cutting around street and roadway obstructions. It has a tight cutting radius of 7.87 in. (200 mm), comparable to many three-wheel machines. The right-rear support leg and wheel can be swiveled inboard for flush cutting. It offers all-wheel drive and features anti-slip control as standard.

Production of the Volvo MT2000 and Volvo MW500 will begin at the end of 2008 and the company anticipates that both models will be available to the North American market in the second quarter of 2009.

Rig Boart Releases New Drill

Rig Boart Longyear has released the DeltaBase 95 drill rig. Featuring a compact footprint, high-end mast articulation and the highest power of any rig in its range, the DB95 is targeted at tieback and soil-nail drilling applications and offers contractors versatility for difficult site conditions.

One of its innovative features is its mast articulation design, which enables fast on-hole setup by maintaining precise and consistent drilling angles as the mast articulates. Operators can adjust the height of the mast as necessary while locking-in the drill-mast inclination. A range of single rotary head or single hydraulic drifter configurations (with available side-shift) meet many common drilling requirements. Radio remote driving controls are a standard feature.
