Diabetes Foundation Honors McGovern

Event recognizing former Pavarini McGovern executive raises $1 million. Also, Professional Women in Construction hosts its annual Construction Chiefs forum.

At its annual “Meet the Construction Chiefs” event, Professional Women in Construction featured several speakers touting the booming construction climate in New York City, as well as the benefits of sustainable design and strides made in supplier diversification. The speakers included, from left: Frank Pampalone, Wal-Mart Stores; Dan Kolakowski, Skanska USA Building; Benjamin Jones, N.Y.C. Department of Buildings; Dickie Sykes, DGS Consulting;  Marcelo Velez, Columbia University;  Maureen Henegan, Henegan Construction; Jay Badame, Tishman Construction; Lenore Janis, PWC; Bill Quinn, Phoenix Constructors JV; and Jon Reissman, Stamack Construction.

 

The New York Building Congress this spring hosted a breakfast forum featuring Eliot “Lee” Sander, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's new executive director, as keynote speaker. The Northern New Jersey & Rockland County chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation recently held its Fifth Annual Dream Gala at the Marriott at Glenpointe in Teaneck, N.J. – an event honoring Eugene McGovern, co-founder of Lehrer-McGovern Construction and former vice chairman of Pavarini McGovern Construction, as Man of the Year. The award recognizes his support of the organization’s mission to find a cure for diabetes, and the event raised $1 million for progressive diabetes research. Members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 164 of Paramus, N.J., recently participated in the REBUILD 1000! program to rehabilitate 1,000 Gulf Coast houses by sending electricians based in New Jersey to work on damaged homes in New Orleans.
