REBNY Hosts “Commercial Crossfire”

The Real Estate Board of New York’s forum asks top real estate developers to discuss the region’s future.

The Shore Builders Association of Central New Jersey recently presented its Builders Employing Associate Members award to the Walters Group, a residential and commercial real estate organization based in Barnegat, N.J. The BEAM award recognizes member firms that contracted with the highest percentage of companies in the association during the previous year. The Real Estate Board of New York, in conjunction with the New York Times, recently hosted “Commercial Crossfire: The Future Is Now” – a forum that aired out hot-button real estate issues. The panelists at the event held in Manhattan included Edward Minskoff of Edward J. Minskoff Equities, Stephen Ross of the Related Cos., Robert Selsam of Boston Properties, and Axel Stawski of Kipp-Stawski Management Group. They discussed topics such as prospects for West Side and downtown commercial development in Manhattan; proposed changes to reform the city’s 421-a property tax program; whether New Jersey cities are a viable alternative for regional commercial property development; and the potential impact that New York City mayors can have on the future of development in the city. Professional Women in Construction’s Connecticut Chapter recently hosted a panel discussion on construction at university campuses. The facilities, planning, and management professionals speaking at the event included, from left: Barbara Spalding, Wesleyan University; M. Blakey Smith, University of Massachusetts at Amherst; Pamela Delphenich, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; James Brassord, Amherst College; Alexandria Roe, Connecticut State University; Irene Addison, Williams College; and Mary Jo Olenick of the S/L/A/M Collaborative of Glastonbury, Conn., who was the moderator.

 

Stribling Marketing Associates, a real estate broker in New York, recently hosted “Construction 101,” a seminar at which Henry Justin, principal of HJ Development, a New York real estate development company, explained intricacies of the construction process to real estate brokers. The luncheon seminar was held at the Parkwood, HJ’s recently completed 22-unit condominium building on East 28th St. in Manhattan.
