The Related Companies LP has
contributed three new computer labs to Washington Irving High
School in Manhattan. The new state-of-the-art facilities will
bring more than one hundred computers to the school. Related
and its construction partners provided the gift, valued at
about $500,000, through the company's involvement with both
the Union Square Partnership and Public Education Needs Civic
Involvement in Learning, also known as PENCIL.
Jeff Blau, president of the Related Companies, learned of
the school's computer shortage when he participated in PENCIL's
Principal for a Day program. A long list of contributing companies
included Plaza Construction, Zwicker Electric, Pearlgreen
Corporation, and Hoboken Floors.
Hearst Corporation and Turner
Construction are the inaugural recipients of the Irish
American Building Society's green construction awards. The
group recognized the two companies for being at the forefront
of green practices in the construction industry.
