Jones Lang Acquires Quartararo

Chicago-based Jones Lang LaSalle has scooped up project management specialist Quartararo & Associates Inc., which operated throughout the tri-state region. Jones Lang already had a New York presence, handling leasing and management services for 48 million sq. ft. of office buildings in the area, according to a company statement. The deal closed earlier this month.

In the acquisition, Quartararo co-founders Ray Quartararo and Dennis Squilla have taken on new positions as managing directors, joined by 45 of their staffers who have moved with them into the Jones Lang project and development services group. According to Quartararo, the acquisition stems from a strategic effort to expand the Jones Lang reach by seeking companies with similar business objectives, culture, and reputation. As part of the deal, the company will no longer use the Quartararo firm name.

In addition to his managing director title, Quartararo has also taken on the post of manager for Jones Lang's project and development services business in the Northeast region, replacing John Krush, who has shifted to a role more focused on the company's development services side. According to Quartararo, Jones Lang assigns new construction or major infrastructure projects to its development management side, while focusing its project management side on interiors-related jobs such as space buildouts. There is no bright line between the two divisions, however, since there is often overlap in project scope.

Quartararo was a 40-person shop that has managed large-scale redevelopments and consolidations as well as specialized renovations and restorations. It had a regional client base with several national accounts as well. According to the statement, Quartararo managed the development of 7 million sq. ft. over the past year. That included representing Time Warner on its high-profile Time Warner Center project, a 2.8 million s.f. double-tower structure in Manhattan.

Jones Lang - a global real estate services and money management company - was formed in the 1999 merger of LaSalle Partners Inc., and Jones Lang Wootton, along with a host of other acquisitions. It operates on five continents, and has more than 17,000 staffers.
