WASA to Design AmeriCares HQ


Wank Adams Slavin Associates LLP, based in New York City, has been selected by Reliance Property Group to design a new world headquarters for the AmeriCares Foundation, a global nonprofit disaster relief organization. The new headquarters complex will be located in Stamford Park in Stamford, Conn.; the charity is currently located in New Canaan, Conn.
WASA will be transforming a 1920s factory into a modern office complex and warehouse. The redesign will result in 24,650 sq. ft. of office space for the charity along with a 51,000-sq.-ft. warehouse that AmeriCares will use to store the supplies it ships throughout the world.
It will include a new, dedicated entrance for AmeriCaresto project the charity's profile in the community.

Gwathmey Siegel Starts Design

The Related Cos., New York, has selected Gwathmey Siegel & Associates to design a 22-story residential tower with 40 apartments on Astor Place in Manhattan.
It is the first residential building in Manhattan designed by Gwathmey, which is noted for among other accomplishments, designing the addition to the Guggenheim Museum; Morgan Stanley Dean Witter world headquarters; and the Science, Industry and Business Library in Manhattan. Ismael Leyva, of Ismael Leyva Architects will be the residential architect for the building.
The building will also house retail on the main floor and parking below grade. It will replace a parking lot and be across the street from Cooper Union and around the corner from the Public Theatre.
