New Condos Rising in Hudson Square

A new 14-story, 104-unit luxury condominium development is rising at 505 Greenwich St. in the Hudson Square area of SoHo in New York, N.Y.

Metropolitan Housing Partners is co-developing 505 Greenwich with Apollo Real Estate. Gary Edward Handel & Associates is the architect, Corcoran Group Marketing is the exclusive marketing and sales agent, Gotham Construction is the construction manager, DeSimone Consulting is the structural engineer and Robert Ettinger Associates is the mechanical engineer.

The building will contain 25 three-bedroom, 42 two-bedroom and 37 one-bedroom units. The building's architectural design features a dramatic glass curtain wall and pre-cast concrete façade rising atop a burnished copper base with dramatic light boxes.


Ground Broken on NJ School Project

Ground was broken on the $61 million New Long Branch High School project in Princeton, N.J.

The project was awarded to Hunt Construction Group's northeast region office in November. The new 300,000 sq. ft. high school will be built on the existing middle school and high school campus. The school will feature a full-service kitchen, auditorium, gymnasium, labs and classrooms. Other school projects recently awarded to Hunt include the New Central High School project, which is estimated at over $65 million and the $65 million Newark Science Park High School project.




CT School Projects Underway

Skanska USA Building Inc. has been awarded the pre-construction services assignment and construction management services for two school building projects in New London, Conn.

The anticipated construction value for both projects is expected to be approximately $44 million. Skanska USA Building Inc.'s share will be 100 percent. Skanska's Connecticut office will be the construction manager for both jobs. The architectural firm

Work will include the demolition of the existing Jennings Elementary School to erect a new 75,000 sq. ft. elementary school and construction of the new 60,000 sq. ft. Science and Technology Magnet High School.


Supportive Housing Under Construction

The Edwin Gould Residence, a 5-story, 52-unit building on East 110th St. in East Harlem, is under construction.

The general contractor on the job is Procida Construction Corporation and the architect is Thanhauser Esterson Kapell. The building will serve as the first permanent residence in New York City dedicated to individuals "aging out" of the foster care. It is designed specifically to meet the needs of this population.

Funding the $9 million development cost are a wide range of sources, including the New York State Division of Housing & Community Renewal, the New York State Homeless Housing & Assistance Corporation, the Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program, the Manhattan Borough President, the Pinkerton Foundation and the Corporation for Supportive Housing. Occupancy is anticipated for early 2005.



Design Work Underway for Four NJ Schools

The Spiezle Architectural Group has hired Schoor DePalma for engineering and design services on four schools in New Jersey.

The four contracts involve work on additions and alterations to the Bedwell Elementary School, the Bernardsville Middle School and Bernards High School in the Somerset Hills School District in Somerset County, N.J. as well as the Del Val High School in the Delaware Valley Regional School District in Hunterdon County, N.J.
