Durst to Build 42nd Street Tower
The Durst Organization and Bank of America struck a deal
to develop the 2.1-million-sq.-ft. Bank of America Tower at
One Bryant Park on West 42nd Street in Manhattan.
The 51-story building will include a variety of conservation
and environmental advances, from water conservation using
rain runoff and gray water recycling, to wind turbines and
co-generation of power and cooling. The building will serve
as the Bank of America's headquarters, with the bank occupying
one million sq. ft.
Demolition of the site is expected to begin in the spring.
Occupancy is anticipated for early 2008. The architectural
firm of Cook + Fox designed the building.
Plaza to Manage "Shops"
Project
Plaza Construction Company was named construction manager,
preconstruction services, of The Shops at Atlas Park in the
Glendale section of Queens, N.Y.
In this capacity, Plaza will assist the owner with detailed
scheduling and budgeting, as well as planning for the logistics
of the project's construction. Plaza will also work with subcontractors
to prepare bid documents. Preconstruction activities will
resume in early 2004, with the full demolition of eight buildings,
as well as a partial deconstruction of three others. It is
expected to open in spring 2005.
Ground Broken on Chelsea Condos
Ground was broken in December for a new 12-story condominium
project at 200 West 24th St. in the Chelsea section of Manhattan.
The developer of the project is Seventh Avenue, LLC of New
York, N.Y. The principal of the company is Nancy Lee Luk.
The brick-and-stone façade building will contain 20,
two-bedroom residences, including a duplex penthouse. Each
floor below will contain only two apartments. Prices for most
units, excluding the penthouse, will range from $725,000 to
just under $1 million.
The architect is T.C. HO Architects of New York, N.Y. and
HRH Construction is the construction manager.
Skanska to Manage Park Project
The New York division of Skanska USA Building Inc. has been
awarded the construction management contract for Segments
6 and 7 of the Hudson River Park in Manhattan. Design and
preconstruction estimating and scheduling efforts are progressing
in concert with each other. Construction was scheduled to
begin late in 2003. The anticipated construction value is
approximately $67 million.
The Segment 6 & 7 project area involves creation of parks
and park facilities along the Hudson River from 25th to 59th
Street in Manhattan. It will include the construction of new
pier structures, bulkhead repair, upland park areas, landscape
improvements, site utilities and infrastructure. Skanska's
project scope consists of preconstruction/technical services
work and on-site management, supervision and contract administration.
