Acute Care Center Undergoing Renovations

SUNY Brooklyn Health Science Center's Acute Care Receiving Center is undergoing renovation and expansion. Wank Adams Slavin Associates, LLP of New York, N.Y. designed the project.

In the first, completed phase, WASA developed a renovation plan that added 13 beds, an X-ray room, a resuscitation room, eight new asthma stations, three "fast track" stations and new pediatric and adult waiting rooms.

For the second phase, currently in construction, WASA designed a multi-purpose facility to held the center receive patients by ambulance and manage biohazard emergencies.


NYU Hospital Project Completed

Construction on the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases Center for Children on East 17th Street in Manhattan has been completed. The 60,000-sq.-ft. project transformed the first, third and fourth floors of the existing hospital and created a specialty outpatient clinic.

Jeffrey M. Brown Associates of New York, N.Y. managed the construction, which created a new reception area, and rooms for exams, consultations and physical/occupational therapy.



ACC Completes Brooklyn Hospital Project

ACC Construction of New York, N.Y. has completed a 20,000-sq.-ft. Outpatient Health Center for St. Mary's Hospital at 211 Powell St. in Brooklyn to provide methadone maintenance, medically supervised alcohol treatment programs and individual and group counseling services.

The three-story structure is a steel moment frame in compliance with the New York City seismic code. The first floor contains a large skylight, waiting rooms, central methadone distribution area, examination rooms, perimeter counseling offices and administrative offices. The second floor houses additional program areas, counseling offices and administrative offices. The lower level floor houses additional offices and storage.


Vanguard Finishes American Girl Place Flagship

Vanguard Construction & Development Company of New York, N.Y. completed a 50,000-sq.-ft. retail flagship for American Girl Place New York.

The new store, located at 609 Fifth Ave. in Manhattan, incorporates an elaborate "Broadway-style" theatre, full-service restaurant and retail interiors. The store opened to the public Nov. 8.


New Buildings on the Rise at Monroe College

Monroe College's Milavec Hall in New Rochelle, N.Y. opened in September. The 22,000-sq.-ft., six-story building was designed by the firm of Susan Doban Architect, PC. of Brooklyn, N.Y.

For the $2.8 million gut renovation project, Doban designed classrooms, offices and a new façade for the building, which will serve as the gateway to the college's east campus and further extend the college's presence along Main Street. For the next phase of the campus development, Doban has designed a six-story, 45,000-sq.-ft., 200-student dormitory adjacent to Milavec Hall on which construction has begun.


Harvard Club Expansion Finished

Expansion and renovation of the Harvard Club in Manhattan was completed. Levien & Company of New York, N.Y. was the project management firm that supervised the work. A grand opening ceremony for the club was held Nov. 5.

Construction on the new 40,000-sq.-ft., eight-story extension to the club began in summer 2001. The project required tearing down two buildings adjacent to the club to make room for the all-glass contemporary structure. The new building houses additional guest rooms, an expanded state-of-the-art kitchen facility, an expanded fitness center and new meeting rooms.

The new building's architect was Davis Brody Bond of New York, N.Y. and its construction manager was F.J. Sciame Construction Company Inc. of New York, N.Y.
