Ravenswood Safety Partnership Signed

Slattery Skanska, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration, KeySpan Energy Development Corp., Stone & Webster and key trade unions have signed a partnership agreement to further promote all elements of safety and health at the Ravenswood Cogeneration Power Plant project currently under way in Queens, N.Y.
Slattery Skanska, in joint venture with subsidiary Gottlieb Skanska, is the general contractor on the 250-MW plant in Long Island City. Stone & Webster is the construction manager.
The goal of the partnership is to develop a contractor/government relationship that will encourage improvements in safety and health performance while striving for the elimination of serious accidents. It will provide incentives including reductions in penalties and opportunities for reduced insurance premiums.
Signing for OSHA were regional administrator, Patricia Clark and Long Island director Havey Shapiro, along with James Rush, program manager of the New York State OSHA Consultation Program. Jim Marzonie, project manger, signed for KeySpan. John Fredrickson, senior project manager, signed for Stone & Weber. Patrick Daly, the safety liaison for the union shop stewards, signed for the workers.

Two Buildings Break Ground
Madison Equities will break ground in May on two new buildings on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The developer is starting a 140,000-sq.-ft. mixed-use hotel/office building at 410 E. 92nd Street. The 15-story building will offer 40,000 sq. ft. of office on floors one to four and above that a 226-room hotel to be operated by Courtyard by Marriott. Next door, Madison Equities will co-develop a 32-story, 190-unit residential tower with The John Buck Co. of Chicago.

IBEX to Build for AIA

New York-based IBEX Construction has been selected by the American Institute of Architects, New York Chapter, to oversee the construction of its new Center for Architecture. The new public resource center and exhibition facility, designed by Andrew Berman of New York, will be located at 534 LaGuardia Place, two blocks south of Washington Square Park.
Over 200 public officials and architects, including New York City Buildings Commissioner Patricia Lancaster, recently gathered at the site to celebrate the beginning of construction. The building is expected to be completed by the fall of this year.

Tiffany & Co. Completes Addition

Led by J.V. Franco Associates, Architects, Martinsville, N.J. and Turner Construction Co., Somerset, N.J., Tiffany & Co. has completed a 595-car parking structure and 96,000-sq.-ft. office addition at its Parsippany, N.J. facility. Over 22,000 sq. ft. of architectural panels produced and erected by Nitterhouse Concrete Products were used to construct the new addition.

383 Madison Wins
BOMA Award

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater New York recognized 383 Madison Avenue, Bear Stearns' World Headquarters, as the "New Construction of the Year" project for 2002-2003.
BOMA New York, presents awards annually to building developers. The organization selects a newly constructed building that demonstrates foresight in site selection and development, embodies excellent and unique concepts in construction, and results in the successful and timely completion of a structure that makes a significant contribution to the Greater New York area.
The Bear Stearns World Headquarters is a 45-story, 1.2 million sq. ft. facility built over the Metro North train shed at Grand Central Terminal.
