New Jersey Mechanical Trade Unions Join
Forces
New Jersey's mechanical trades
have united in a new council to represent 40,000 workers.
Also, the Subcontractors Trade Association announced the
winners of its annual awards program.
N.J. Unions Form New Council
Six New Jersey mechanical trades recently united to form
a statewide organization representing approximately 40,000
union workers.
The newly formed Mechanical and Allied Crafts Council of
New Jersey represents 30 local unions spanning all of the
state's counties.
The members include the United Association of Journeymen
and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry;
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; Sheet Metal
Workers International Association; International Association
of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers; International
Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing
Iron Workers; and International Brotherhood of Boilermakers,
Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers, and Helpers.
STA Unveils Honors
The Subcontractors Trade Association of New York recently
announced its 2006 awards.
The association gave its Silver Shovel award to Jody Durst,
co-president of the Durst Organization, a real estate development
firm based in New York. It also named Steven Fisher, chairman
and CEO of New York-based Plaza Construction, as its Builder
of the Year.
The Subcontractor of the Year award went to Robert Ansbro,
president of New York Roofing Co. And the association gave
its Public Official of the Year award to William Goldstein,
who is heading up construction of the memorial at the World
Trade Center, but was recognized for his work as president
and CEO of the New York City School Construction Authority,
a position he held until February.
The association presented its Michael Mazzucca Lifetime Achievement
Award posthumously to Ron Finamore, founder and president
of Jordan Panel Systems, a design and construction firm based
in East Northport, N.Y. that specializes in enclosure systems.
New Officers for Engineering Society
The New York chapter of the American Society of Sanitary
Engineering recently announced its officers for 2006.
The chapter elected John Callaghan to be president of the
association for a second term. In addition, William Briggs
will serve as first vice president, Kurt Hazard as second
vice president, Bob Zeuner as secretary, and Peter Plemper
as treasurer.
The group also appointed Dominick Agostino and Charles Magnelli
to one-year terms on its board of directors, and named Michael
Haines and Steve Silver to two-year terms.
Allied Building Holds Awards Event
Allied Building Metal Industries, a regional association,
recently recognized New York metropolitan area companies for
their safety records and overall achievement at its annual
Iron Worker of the Year ceremony.
The industry association bestowed its safety awards on seven
firms for posting the least number of workdays lost: A.C.
Associates of Lyndhurst, N.J.; the steel division of Ahern
Painting Contractors of Woodside, N.Y.; American Bridge Co.
of Pearl River, N.Y.; Enclos Corp of Eagan, Minn., which has
offices in New York; Koch Skanska of Cartaret, N.J.; Midlantic
Erectors of Roselle, N.J.; and the joint venture of Perini-Tutor-Saliba
of Peekskill, N.Y.
In addition, the association presented its Iron Worker of
the Year awards to Richard Taylor of Ahern Painting, Armando
Spagnolo of Midlantic, and Loris Kirton of United Iron in
Mt. Vernon, N.Y. The group also awarded 15 college scholarships
of up to $2,000 a year.
National Honors for N.Y. CoreNet
The New York City chapter of CoreNet Global, a national association
for corporate real estate professionals, won three out of
four awards recognizing individual chapters at a recent summit
held in Las Vegas.
Competing against 31 peers across North America and judged
by a jury of chapter officers, the local chapter won awards
for its education, programming, and chapter development efforts.
