SMPS Holds 9th Annual Awards Reception
The New York chapter of the Society for Professional Marketing
Services recently honored several industry leaders at its
9th Annual Honor Awards held in Manhattan.
SMPS honored several individuals for their marketing efforts,
including presenting the Marketing Mentor award to Neal Forshner,
president of New York-based CTE Engineering. It also recognized
Michael Lee, president and CEO of AKRF of New York, as Marketing
Champion and Anthony Musumeci, director of marketing and business
development at Emtec Consulting Engineers of Ronkonkoma, N.Y.,
with a Marketing Achievement award.
The organization recognized Kenneth Mandel, co-founder of
Great Projects Film Co., with an industry award for media
work for his efforts as a producer, director, and writer of
films about the design and construction industry.
SMPS also presented Mysore Nagaraja, president of the Metropolitan
Transportation Authority's Capital Construction unit, with
its Public Sector award. And the organization recognized Stefan
Pryor, the new president of the Lower Manhattan Development

a $1,000 scholarship to Sarah Andersen, a junior at Pace University
in New York. The scholarship, which uses funds from the annual
SMPS holiday party raffle, is part of the organization's effort
to inform college students about marketing opportunities in
the construction and design industry.
Skyscraper and Concrete Groups Join Forces
Skyscraper Safety, an organization of the families of victims
from the World Trade Center terrorist attacks in 2001, met
recently with the Concrete Alliance, a New York-based industry
group, to coordinate efforts on promoting high-rise building
safety.
The meeting featured presentations by members of the Concrete
Alliance, including its president, Al Gerosa, about the use
of cast-in-place reinforced concrete instead of steel in high-rise
structures. The concrete industry representatives also described
high-end, fast-track concrete pouring techniques that they
said make the material competitive with steel in terms of
total cost.
Several representatives of Skyscraper Safety attended the
session, including its founder, Sally Regenhard. The session
was the first in a series of meetings between the two groups,
which are planning to coordinate a broader public information
campaign addressing safety in high-rise buildings.
