ASCE Names First Female President
Patricia D. Galloway, president and CEO of the Nielsen-Wurster
Group, Inc. in Princeton, N.J., was named president of the
American Society of Civil Engineers. She is the first woman
to lead the organization in its 151-year history.
Galloway was installed Nov. 15 during ASCE's annual business
meeting in Nashville, Tenn. She has chaired various ASCE committees
including membership, international activities and woman in
civil engineering, and has served as member of the communications,
strategic planning and professional construction and management
committees.
Metal Industry Presents Awards
The Allied Building Metal Industries Inc. presented seven
Safety Awards and three Iron Worker of the Year awards at
a recent event. In addition, the organization gave out college
scholarships of up to $2,000 per year to 16 students.
Safety awards were presented to A.C. Associates, American
Bridge Company, Glasmar Steel Erectors, Koch Skanska, Perini-Tutor-Saliba,
Solera Construction and Enclos Corporation. Iron Worker of
the Year awards went to David Coffey, of Perini Corporation;
Jack Kenny of Metro Steel Construction Co., Inc. and Desmond
Pierre, of Genetech Building Systems Inc.
Training Program Wins Excellence Award
EYP University, Einhorn Yaffee Prescott, Architecture &
Engineering, P.C.'s in-house educational and training program,
was honored with the national 2003 American Institute of Architects/Continuing
Education Award for Excellence.
EYP University provides and supports educational resources,
training and life-long learning activities for all of the
firm's employees. The program combines internal resources
with outside expertise in a curriculum aligned with the company's
mission.
Society Marks 218 Years
The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of the City
of New York celebrated its 218th anniversary in the library
of its landmark home at 20 West 44th St. in New York, N.Y.
More than 80 guests joined society members in unveiling the
society's landmark designation plaque, a replica of its original
flag, and in saluting its accomplishments made over the past
218 years.
Engineer Wins Management Award
The New York State Society of Professional Engineers named
Nicholas J. Bartilucci, president of the Long Island-based
consulting engineering firm of Dvirka and Bartilucci, as recipient
of the 2003 Outstanding Professional Engineer in Management
Award.
Bartilucci's professional experience spans nearly a half-century
in civil and environmental engineering. He graduated from
Manhattan College with a bachelor of civil engineering degree
and from New York University with a master of civil engineering
degree.
