Turner Finishes WTC Work (10/25/01)

Turner Construction Co. of New York, one of four construction managers under contract to the New York City Department of Design & Construction (DDC) for the World Trade Center cleanup, will be leaving the site in November, according to Turner President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Fee.

DDC Commissioner Ken Holden confirmed Turner’s departure from the site, noting that “Turner’s work is on Building 7. Building 7 is the building north of the entire complex. This building was cleared fast because it was the last building to fall, and thus evacuated. Thus, there are no human remains [to recover].”

Continuing, Holden said that “this cleanup (for Building 7) will be completed by mid-November and the majority of Turner’s construction work will be finished. They will be retained as a consultant well into next year. They’ve done a great job.”

He added that Turner has picked up a lot of the interior work in the area.

Fee confirmed this, noting that among the work they will do for private clients is the repair of the Winter Garden at the World Financial Center and work at One Liberty Plaza.

Tishman Construction is also doing work for private clients in the vicinity of Ground Zero and AMEC Construction Management Inc., Bovis Lend Lease LMB and Tully Construction are continuing the cleanup at the World Trade Center site as the other three construction management firms under contract to DDC.
