As part of an effort to make Boston's Logan International Airport safer, greener and more secure, workers upgraded a major parking garage from the 1970s and the supporting roadway system.

Work included adding security cameras to the five-level, 500,000-sq-ft facility, which has 2,700 parking spaces. Environmental improvements included replacing lighting with energy-efficient LEDs, which reduced electricity use by 49%. Some 1,024 photovoltaic panels installed on the garage's roof will generate enough energy to cover 5% of the facility's annual power needs.

Using precast beams for a roadway helped the project wrap up 11 months early and translated into $3 million in savings.
