Construction has commenced on a new $350-million Bronx campus for the New York State Office of Mental Health, the Bronx Psychiatric Center, and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. The new campus will be located at 1500 Waters Place, between Waters Place and the Hutchinson River Parkway.
Designed by New York-based Spector Group, the master plan calls for a campus that will include three outpatient buildings, a central services building, a central utility plant, and an adult and children’s facility located on 50-plus acres. Plans also call for the preservation of five existing buildings. The outpatient buildings will include Safe Horizon Haven House, which will have a 24-bed and a 20-bed wing; a 96-bed transitional living residence; and a 48-bed studio residence. The campus will consist of state-of-the-art facilities that aim to achieve LEED Silver certification.
Spector Group is also serving as the architect for the outpatient residential village and the two central buildings, and it is overseeing construction of the project, which is expected to be completed by December 2013.
The project is DASNY’s first using Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology.
“While each building will serve a specific purpose, they are united in the goal of treating clients in a comfortable residential setting,” says George M. Kuchek, a senior associate at Spector Group who is serving as project manager for the project along with Marc B. Spector, principal of the firm.
The project team also includes mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer, R.G. Vanderweil; structural engineer, Ysrael A. Seinuk; and civil engineer, Langan Engineering.
