commentThe Dormitory Authority of the State of New York has awarded Skanska USA a $373-million contract for the final phase of the City University of New York Advanced Science Research Campus at City College in Manhattan. Work is scheduled to begin this month, with completion expected in the fall of 2014.
The project includes the interior fit-out of about 40,000 sq ft as well as construction of a four-story City College of New York building, a five-story science and research building and a shared ground floor and plaza area to be built on the roof between the two new buildings. The project will seek LEED Silver certification and include site work and landscaping, state-of-the-art imaging facilities, a clean-room lab suite, a vivarium, a laboratory, an office, an auditorium, and mechanical and loading dock areas. Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates PC, New York is the design architect on the project and Flad Architects, Madison, Wis. is the architect-of-record.
"The facility has a unique modular space design that allows for future flexibility," says Steve Curro, managing director of construction with Skanska. "The final product will be the center of the City University's drive to achive excellence in science research."
