ArtBridge Invites Artists to Decorate Atlantic Yards Scaffolding

ArtBridge, an organization that helps transform scaffolding or sidewalk bridges into temporary outdoor art exhibits, announced a call for entries for its Brooklyn installation, Works in Progress. Artists can submit visual art that will be enlarged and displayed on the 400-ft sidewalk bridge on Flatbush Avenue on the South Side of the Atlantic Yards Development.

ArtBridge installations aim to give up-and-coming artists exposure and to liven up the nearly 1-million linear ft of scaffolding across New York City. Brooklyn-based artists have up to one month to submit visual work that somehow references the artistic process. A team of curators will then select the winners.

“The exhibition site, itself an as-yet unfinished project, serves as a perfect setting that mirrors the process we hope artists will be discussing through their work,” said Jordana Zeldin, ArtBridge’s director in a statement.

Artists can submit their entries for Works in Progress directly to www.art-bridge.org. The cost to submit is $25 for one entry, $40 for two entries, and $55 for three entries. Entries are due on Sunday, June 26 at midnight.

“Development is very much a process that combines land, materials and human labor to create something new,” said MaryAnne Gilmartin, the Forest City Ratner Companies executive vice president in charge of the Atlantic Yards project in a statement. “We’re thrilled to provide a backdrop for ArtBridge to work with Brooklyn artists to explore the creative process.”
