commentAIA Newark & Suburban Architects, a section of AIA New Jersey and a Chapter and Region of the American Institute of Architects recently held its 17th annual design competition in which awards were given to the best architectural work from architects throughout the northern New Jersey area.
Honorable mentions were given to Solutions for Architecture of Newark for Hayes Park East-Community Center in Newark; Philip Kennedy-Grant Architecture of Bernardsville, N.J. for its design of a modern kitchen for a residence and for River House in Flanders, N.J.; Julia Buteux Studio of Madison, N.J. for additions and alterations to a residence located at 2 Overlook Road in Chatam, N.J.; and Maria DeCosimo Architects of Westfield, N.J. for additions and alterations to a residence located at 173 Woodland Avenue in Madison.
Bronze medals were awarded to Fallon + Pacheco of Bloomfield, N.J. for the Kearny Board of Education-Franklin School Multi-Purpose Room in Kearny, N.J. and Environetics of Englewood Cliffs, N.J. for the Delaware Welcome Center in Newark, Del.
Silver medals were awarded to Rosen Group of Summit, N.J. for the Warwick Tudor Addition in Summit; Fabiano Architects of Montclair for Club H Fitness in Jersey City; Environetics for New York Foundling-Brown Place; and The Biber Partnership of Summit, N.J. for the Visitors’ Welcome Center-Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
The gold medal was awarded to Hugh A. Boyd Architects of Montclair for The Landmark-Makati in Manila, Philippines.
The awards event was the largest ever held by AIANS drawing 45 project boards which will be displayed for public view at various empty storefronts in Montclair. The jurors for ths event included Bruce Beinfield, Louise Braverman and Marc Tsurumaki
