A Look at the Region’s Top 40 Big Ticket Construction Starts From Last Year

New York Construction magazine traditionally has used the June issue to highlight the top 20 projects started and the top 20 projects completed over the course of the previous year. But with the region still witnessing an unprecedented boom cycle, the list of project starts gets bigger and more impressive every year.

For example: Just three years ago, only 11 project starts were valued at over $200 million. Two years ago, there were 18. Last year, there were 20. This year, the region saw the start of at least 23 such projects. Additionally, seven projects totaling $1 billion or more got underway in 2007. Last year, there were three.

The problem with a magazine is there is only so much space.

So we’ve decided to forgo featuring project completions and, this year, we are focusing exclusively on the Top 40 projects that broke ground in 2007. Unfortunately, some projects were disqualified this year because, under a different set of start-date requirements, they made last year’s list, which included projects that started in the early months of 2007.

This year’s projects cover a variety of sectors and types ranging from major infrastructure jobs (East Side Access, 7 Subway Line extension) to luxury residential (Trump Parc Stamford, Skyview Parc).
