Becoming More Goal-Oriented
As we enter the 21st century, I see a building industry
that is less fragmented and more goal-oriented rather than
one motivated by individual interest; not because of some
rude altruistic awakening but because we realize that this
is more profitable for all in the long run.
I believe government will also help through more partnering
with private industry and privatization of government projects,
minimizing unnecessary bureaucracy.
Our common cause - to design and build more secure buildings
and infrastructure - will require more focus on objectives,
less on process. Our future successful building design and
construction professionals will be those who add content to
projects.
Management and process will always have a place but guided
by a renewed emphasis on the need for design and technical
excellence to ensure success in the many new challenges ahead
