Recent projects by Scarano Architects, based in New York, have received top awards from the Brooklyn Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The chapter honored the firm's work on the SoHo Residence and 234 West 20th Street, both in Lower Manhattan. In addition, the firm received the 2005 New York Council of the Society of Registered Architects Award of Excellence, the society's top prize, for its work on Ella 82, a luxury condominium development in Brooklyn.

 Edward Shiffer, a former principal of SBLM Architects, and Edwin Abreu, that firm's former information technology director, have formed Information Systems for Design Professionals, an IT consulting firm based in New York that targets its services toward the architect and engineer community.

 Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel, a law firm based in New York, has expanded its land use practice by hiring six former Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker employees. The group includes partner Paul Selver, counsel Elise Wagner, special counsels Valerie Campbell and Jeremiah Candreva, associate Sheila Pozon, and planning and development specialist Marcie Kesner. 

 Peckar & Abramson, a New York-based construction law firm, has merged with Bastianelli, Brown & Kelley of Washington, D.C.

 David Grigg and Georges Pigault have been hired to lead the newly-created building and design risk division at Hub International Northeast Ltd., a New York subsidiary of Hub International Ltd., an insurance broker. The new group will focus solely on architects and engineers.
